Brain and the nervous system
Your brain is in your head. It’s connected through your spinal cord to an extensive network of nerves that run through your entire body, the peripheral nervous system. Your brain and spinal cord together form the central nervous system.
Your brain is the main control room of your body. It controls your muscles, allowing you to run, jump or write. It makes sure that you can breathe, that your heart keeps beating and that your gastrointestinal tract works. Thanks to your brain you can think, learn, remember and much more. In addition, it also takes care of an incredible amount of other processes in your body without you being aware of it. In short, your brain is indispensable.
If something is wrong in your brain, it’s often noticeable, but not always. There are many diseases and conditions that affect your brain.
