Theme: Famous diabetics
You probably know that you’re not the only person on the planet with diabetes. But did you also know that you’re in good company? There are many famous people who have (or had) diabetes too. Did you know that Halle Berry has it, or that Mao Tse Tung and Elvis Presley had it? Also, Charles de Gaulle, Michael Gorbatsjov and Edison, the inventor of the lightbulb, had it.
There are also famous athletes with diabetes. Volleyball player Bas van de Goor has it, and Gary Hall from the United States – who won the Olympic gold medal in 50-meter freestyle swimming both at the Athens and Sydney games. Gary says his success is due to finding the right balance between the amount of insulin, carbohydrates, and exercise.
